INVITATION TO THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH WEST OF IRELAND
The Neurofibromatosis Association of Ireland would like to extend a very warm welcome to the 13th. European Neurofibromatosis Meeting, "education and information for families, health professionals and scientists".
The conference takes place in Killarney, situated in the heart of the beautiful southwest of Ireland. Killarney was the first Tourist Destination in Ireland and has a tradition of welcoming visitors for almost three centuries. Monarchs, Poets, Artists, Writers and Composers have visited and been inspired by the unique and unsurpassed beauty of the region. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape, the majestic mountains and mystical lakes combine to make Killarney the ultimate jewel in quality holiday destinations. Described as a "place for all seasons" it's world famous National Park, Muckross House & Gardens, Golf Courses and the Ring of Kerry offer wonderful experiences never to be forgotten. Therefore I'm optimistic Killarney will make an ideal setting and set the tone for an informative and successful conference.
The conference venue is the five-star Brehon Hotel, located 1Klm from Killarney town centre and offers an ideal forum for the comprehensive and exciting programme being put together by the Scientific Board of Nf. Europe. It's expected the conference will be attended by representatives from upwards on twenty-two countries with contributions from Health Professionals and Scientists from the US, Europe, UK and Ireland. Participants will have access to the latest advances in research and medical care and enable all those involved in the welfare of patients with Neurofibromatosis to have a better understanding and essential knowledge to take back to their own country.
An exciting addition to the conference will be the "Lay Group Seminar", focused at Nf. patients and their families. The seminar will run in parallel with the scientific meeting. With an expected attendance of 150 lay people it is hoped families will leave with a better understanding of Neurofibromatosis, how to manage the condition and what to look out for particularly in young children. Speakers attending the scientific meeting will take time out to address the Lay Group Seminar, therefore it's rarely, if ever, such an opportunity will present itself again for health professionals and Nf. families across Ireland.
The burden placed on Nf. patients and their families in trying to cope with this complex condition cannot be overstated. Therefore, we are appealing to Health Professionals from around the world and in particular our own medical people in Ireland to support the conference. Hopefully, together we can stimulate further research and clinical developments, so important to those affected by this little known but serious genetic condition.
We in NF Ireland look forward to extending a "céad míle fáilte" (a very warm welcome) to everyone and a stimulating few Days in Killarney.
